Can the LG AX260 (AkA Alltel's LG Scoop and Verizon's LG Rumor) be used as a prepaid phone?
A friend of mine is interested in taking my old Alltel LG Scoop of my hands, but she uses a prepaid service from another carrier so I wasn't sure if this phone could be used on a prepaid service or not.

even though verizon owns alltel you can not use the alltel phones on the verizon prepaid services. nor will you be able to use the phone on any other service then alltel
You can flash it to Cricket or Metro. Or you can use it on Page Plus Cellular which runs on Verizon prepaid network and can take most Verizon/Alltel phones without flashing. You will get talk/text/mms but probably no web with Page Plus unless you have it modified.
Page Plus has a new 39.95 unlimited talk/text/20 meg web plan out there. I would wait to try them out though as they are overloaded by demand right now. I would seriously wait 6-8 weeks till they have calmed down. Boost mobile was like this when they launched their unlimited plan too. It was impossible to get through.

I can guarantee this phone will not work on the following prepaid networks: Virgin Mobile, Tmobile prepaid, Att. Gophone, Tracfone, Net10, Straight Talk, Boost Mobile cdma/iden.
It may work on verizon prepaid. No guarantees.
