Cell phones, I need help. Is there a prepaid phone service I can use for my Nokia 6360 phone?
I like my Nokia 6360 phone but don't want to be tied to a contract. I had been buying prepaid cards from Locus but they have discontinued this service. Is there another provider I can use with my existing phone? If so, is a new chip needed? Can I do all this on-line? Thanks.

The Nokia 6360 is a TDMA phone. Locus discontinued service (along with a slew of others!) because TDMA is being phased out in favour of GSM. In fact, even before Locus discontinued service completely, they stopped activating new lines a couple of years ago. Cingular is still using their TDMA towers in some areas but they’re shutting them off. Some are already off but all will be gone by sometime in 2008 and analog (on Cingular) will go with it.
Your best bet is to get another phone. I’ve been able to get free phones (after rebate) out of Cingular prepaid and T-Mobile prepaid by using links from http://www.dealking.com or http://www.fatwallet.com
This guy’s page has a great comparison table between different current prepaid providers. http://www.cellguru.net/prepaid_compare.htm
Many you can still get cheap phones with, and if you can’t, eBay is always a great compendium of phones. I got a GSM Nokia on eBay from the same era as your phone a few years ago for less than $10 with a brand new ultra life li-ion battery, shipping included. Good luck!
