How are cellphones unsafe if they are used for saftey purposes?

HI! I am doing a persuasive essay, and my topic is SHOULD YOU USE CELLPHONES WHILE DRIVING?. So my opposition to this is that You can use cellphones for an emergency crisis, but I cant seem to think of why it would be unsafe if you had a cellphone with you. Can u please help? thanks
I had to do PROs and CONs to this, I am arguing that YOU SHOULD NOT use cellphones while driving, so my teacher told us to have a strong opposition to it.

    The purpose may be laudible, but the manner in which they are used may not be safe–when one is driving, one should have one’s mind on driving–steering the vehicle, anticipating the movements of other drivers, reacting to changes in traffic, etc. If one is distracted by a cellphone, it lessons one’s abilitliy to drive safely.
    And, don’t you just hate it when you see a driver on a cellphone take a corner way too fast and almost run over a pedestrian in the crosswalk!

    um how about you are most likely going to be concentrating on the cellphone conversation rather than on your driving/ traffic. or if you dont have a headset and have the phone to your ear than you will have one hand on the wheel and one hand occuppied with the phone…just some ideas.

    I’ve done this. You’re right cell phone’s ARE for safety reasons. But, when you have A LOT of friends, you loose the safety. You shouldn’t use it while driving, because first off – Distraction. You may be so held up in what you’re talking about, that you’re not ganna keep your mind on the road. That’s basically the number one reason.

    A cell phone can save your life, BUT can be dangerous when you’re driving.

    There are also some studies that link excessive cell phone usage to brain cancer.
