How to look for a iphone that is not broken (used)?

i was going to buy a iphone off craiglists but i don't know are they broken or so.. How could i check the phone without actually open the phone and get the owner pissed off. Any idea how because i brought used iphone once and the sleep button for pushed right in and it turns off every 5 min! Anyone know how to? And how to check for long lasting cause i will be using the phone for 1 year

    first off all….who cares if the seller is pissed if ur open the box to see if the phone is in good condition! if ur investing your money into the phone you have every right to make sure it is legit. and if the phone is in good condition then the seller shouldnt have a problem with it. just take the phone to a 3rd party like a cellphone repair store and have them check it out and they will let u know. its like taking a car u r going to buy to a mechanic to check it out before buying.

    On ebay there is brand new phones that aren’t used
